God caused Christ to become
sin on our behalf so that by identifying with his death we might be put right with God.

1 PETER 2:19-24
Although Jesus had committed no sin, he did not attempt to vindicate himself or return the insults he received. Instead he entrusted himself to the one who judges justly.

The Cross As God's Answer To Evil

Jesus' death on the Cross is God's answer to the problem of evil and suffering in the world. Christ's death and resurrection have defeated all the powers of hell and bought forgiveness of sin and eternal life to all who put their trust in Jesus' blood to make them righteous in the eyes of a holy God who hates sin but loves sinners.
